It is intended that other projects based on the same technology and concept will be undertaken shortly in Latvia.
A potential for some 70MWe plus of capacity has been identified for Latvia alone based on the concept of locating small, discrete plants adjacent to heat users and supplying power to the grid. Designing in good quality combined heat and power ensures high overall energy recovery whilst avoiding wastes to landfill. Each plant will bear a close similarity to the plant at Malpils but will be scaled to match the adjacent heat demand.
The concepts used at the Malpils facility will also be used internationally to promote green energy production (power, heat/refrigeration) and the responsible, environmentally friendly disposal of solid wastes, contributing to a zero carbon to landfill goal.
